Yoga is suitable for your cardiovascular system

Yoga is as effective as physical activity in general when it comes to the cardiovascular system. Regular practitioners can experience this for themselves. But scientific studies confirm this subjective feeling: two universities (Harvard in Boston and Erasmus in Rotterdam) have based their findings on around thirty studies carried out over 10 years involving almost 3,000 participants. The average duration of practice was twelve weeks (which shows, incidentally, that the effects of yoga can be felt very quickly).

The results were as follows: weight loss, improvement in body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, lipid levels, etc. These results are similar to those obtained by cycling or running (a study published in the European Journal of Prevention Cardiology).

These results show that regular yoga practice is effective in all areas of health, including preventing heart attacks, strokes and heart problems. The added benefit of yoga is that it can be adapted to suit individual limitations and constraints, which is not always possible with ‘traditional’ sports activities

Of course, for these effects to be fully expressed, an appropriate lifestyle is recommended (stopping smoking, eating well, getting enough sleep, etc.). We could even add that making the practice (become) a real pleasure can really make it a source of overall fulfilment.
